Pastor Belinda Owens
A Comforting Father
Daily Word – 8/30/18
Many of you know our oldest son Cameron went home to be with the Lord in 2005. He was killed in a car wreck at the age of 22 years. Nothing on earth could have prepared us for the loss we would experience. I would not have made it this far without God’s loving interventions. I want to share some of what God did for me during this time. I will share different experiences as I feel I should here in the Daily Word. We were in Nicaragua holding crusades in the mountains. It was our first time to be in that area and we had a new translator working for us. Each day we would drive two vans, I drove one full of the local church leaders and Rusty would drive the other. Rusty would have the translator and pastors in his van, I was the only one who spoke English in mine and everyone else in my van only spoke Spanish. (made for an interesting ride lol) Every day we would drive way out into the mountains and hold street/park meetings in small communities. We would give out rice and gifts. Then we would drive back to our base city where Rusty & I were staying, dropping off our passengers as we headed back to town. One evening it was getting dark as I was following Rusty and the translator down the mountains. The roads were very dangerous. Cattle would be in the road, people, rocks, you name it, you would just really have to be on guard while driving. As it was growing dark I was a little ways behind Rusty & the translator. Rusty stopped and pulled over. He told the translator that he didn’t like for me to get out of sight since it was so dangerous and I was driving alone. Our new translator that did not know us and did not know we had lost our son Cameron told Rusty “She isn’t alone” Rusty asked him “what’s that?” the translator said “No she isn’t alone, there is a young man setting beside her”. Rusty didn’t say anything else but “When we get back to the hotel tell Belinda what you told me.” When we arrived back at the hotel the translator came up to me and said “Bro. Rusty wants me to tell you that you aren’t riding alone coming back into town”. I said “What?” He starting telling me this, he said “You aren’t riding alone. There is this young man setting beside you.” I said “oh my, what does he look like?” The translator said “he is a young man with shoulder length hair”. I asked him “can you tell me what his face looks like?” and he replied “ I couldn’t see his face cause when you would get close to us he was glowing so bright his face wasn’t visible”. I then told him of Cameron who had shoulder length hair, and who had been killed going to get a passport photo to get his passport to go with us to Nicaragua about a year before. Of course I cried. Just the thought of how wonderful God was to let me know my son was getting to see and be with us there in the mountains if Nicaragua. Cameron is one of our Great Cloud of Witnesses!
Hebrews 12:1 New King James Version (NKJV) Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us
