Being the Strongman
- Pastor Rusty / June 16, 2023
“Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house.” Matt.12:29 NLT
This passage is part of a larger teaching about casting out demons, but it is good also for the thought I have today. How to plunder a strongman’s house. You have to bind the strongman first. Jesus is teaching a truth on how to plunder demon strongholds. But the reversal is equally true. This is how the demonic gains access into the lives of the believer. Because as a believer your authority is greater than the devil’s. (1 John 4:4). So how is he able to plunder your house? He has to bind the strongman (you) before he can plunder your goods. How does he do that? Age old tricks.
When King David originally went up against the stronghold of Zion, (Jerusalem), the inhabitants were so confident that David could not penetrate the fortress that they lined the walls of the city with impotent folks and said, “You can’t come in here.” And they mocked David and his men. But David’s men entered the city through the aqua duct and attacked the city from within. No true spiritual fortress can be taken from without. But The most destructive attacks are always from within. The enemy gets the strongman to compromise to gain access from within. As the strongman you have the advantage of home field advantage. You have walls of defense and entrenchments in place. You are ready for any attack from outside your walls. But through inward compromise you find yourself bound and defeat comes from within. How do you prevent this repetitious cycle from happening?🤔 Good question!🧐
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Prov. 4:23. Protect the issues of the heart, the wellsprings. Keep you spiritual man intact within and the out will take care of itself. Don’t focus on the activity outside the walls, just take care of the activity inside the walls.
“They made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept” SOS.1:6b. The complaint of the beloved. Take care of your own vineyard within your heart. Let us pray, “Holy Father, teach us to keep the main thing the main thing. Help us to tend our own garden within and to be the strongman within our house. Help us put our house in order and be an uncompromising strongman, for our heart, for our house, for our family. In Jesus name. Amen.” Pastor Rusty.
