Day 5 — Calming the Storm - Pastor Belinda🌷 - April 16, 2026

Location: Sea of Galilee

Peace Is Found in His Presence, Not the Absence of Storms

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” — Mark 4:39 KJV

There is a kind of peace the world chases—a life with no storms, no pressure, no conflict. But Scripture reveals something deeper: true peace is not the removal of the storm, but the revelation of Who is with you in it.

The disciples were not on the wrong path when the storm arose—they were in the will of God, following Jesus. Yet the waves crashed, the wind roared, and fear overtook them. Their crisis wasn’t just the storm—it was forgetting who was in their boat.

When Jesus stood and spoke, He said, “Peace, be still.”

In the Greek, “peace” is εἰρήνη (eirēnē)—not merely the absence of chaos, but wholeness, rest, and divine order. It carries the sense of everything being brought back into alignment with God.

“Be still” comes from φιμόω (phimoō), which means to muzzle, to silence, to shut the mouth. This is not a gentle suggestion—it is a command of authority. Jesus didn’t negotiate with the storm; He silenced it.

In Hebrew, the parallel idea of peace is שָׁלוֹם (shalom)—completeness, safety, soundness, and well-being. Shalom is not the absence of trouble; it is the presence of God’s fullness in the middle of it.

The storm revealed something: even though Jesus was physically present, the disciples still operated in fear. They asked, “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” How often do we ask the same question in different words?

The presence of Jesus in your boat is greater than the storm against your boat.

Peace did not come when the storm started—it came when Jesus spoke.

And Jesus was there the whole time. We learn as we mature in Him that there is no need for fear at the storm because we know Jesus is there.

Some storms are not sent to destroy you—they are permitted to reveal Him. They are meant to bring out your faith as you see Jesus is in the storm with you.

Lord,

Teach me to find peace in Your presence, not in perfect circumstances.

Silence the storms within me, even before the storms around me cease.

Let Your eirēnē fill my heart and Your shalom rest upon my life.

Open my eyes to see that You are in my boat.

And if You are with me, I will not fear.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
