♦️“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”(Ecc.9:10)
♦️“Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”(1Cor.10:31)

Imagine scrubbing toilets and giving God glory in something you had come to despise! Not only did I despise it, I was extremely allergic to the chemicals I had to use to effectively clean a toilet.
With five children, six-years-old and younger, I had lots of (cloth) diapers to clean out (before they went in the washing machine), and so I cleaned them in the toilet which had to be sanitized every day!
My hands stayed cracked and bleeding, and the worst part was that no one even noticed what I was doing for my children. No one cared or gave me appreciation, or bought me flowers, or even took me for a hamburger! My husband was in seminary 150-miles away, four days a week, and I had the sole responsibility of the kids!
One day I caught myself, having a pity party and grumbling about such humiliating duties, when I heard an audible voice say, “I appreciate what you are doing, Shelia.”
“WHAT?” I responded rather loudly! And I looked around the bathroom expecting someone to be there, yet no one else was in the room! So, I asked again, this time much more quietly, “What, Lord?”
Then Holy Spirit, as He loves to do, brought to my mind the scripture in Ephesians 6:6, “Always do what is right, not only when others are watching; so that you may please Christ as His servant by doing His will.”
Gotcha’! That was it! I wasn’t cleaning toilets for my children’s sake, I was cleaning them out of my love for them and for my Savior. Yes! Jesus who had died for me and given Himself for me, had given me these five children and with that blessing came certain responsibilities - one of which was keeping their little bodies clean and healthy!
I made a plaque with that verse on it - “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might!” (Ecclesiastes 9:10). (I hung that scripture over that toilet…) And from that day forward - well at least for most days after that - I stopped to thank God for healthy children who made the mess that I “had the privilege” to clean up!
That verse became my theme for almost anything I was doing - little or big! For instance, when asked (more than once) why I played (or some called it “pounding”) the piano with such “enthusiasm” - that was my verse! “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might!”
So, I thought I had to be the first one to finish a test even when I returned to college (my baby was 8-years-old) and that was again, “my verse.” “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might!”
It truly is not a “competition” with others, but a drive that God has put in me - to be the best I can be and to do it for His Glory!
That is our life! That is His ability! That is what drives us on to overcome! To be victorious! To “win the race!” So that our lives might bring Glory to our Heavenly Father, and so we do it all “with all of our might.”
“Serve your employers wholeheartedly and with love, as though you were serving Christ and not men. 8 Be assured that anything you do that is beautiful and excellent will be repaid by our Lord, whether you are an employee or an employer.” (Eph.6:7-8)
Perhaps you are thinking that your life is insignificant, or that what you are doing doesn’t matter, or that no one knows or cares about what you are doing. But I’m writing this to tell YOU that YOU ARE WRONG!
God sees! God knows! And He is a rewarder of those who are faithful. Even in the little things!
“The one who manages the little he has been given with faithfulness and integrity will be promoted and trusted with greater responsibilities. But those who cheat with the little they have been given will not be considered trustworthy to receive more.” (Luke.16:10)
