“Hear, oh Israel“

Daily Word - Oct.16, 2018

: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."

Duet. 6:4-5

This is the first part of the Hebrew "Shema", The first command in Hebrew philosophy. It is also the prayer that is recited every day in Jewish society.

Jesus consented in Matt. 22:36-37, that this is the first and great command in the levitical law and that all the law and the prophets hang on the two commands, "to love the LORD with

all your heart and your neighbor as yourself."

It's interesting that the first command is actually the "shema" itself. The word "shema" is actually the first word of the command. It is the Hebrew word for,"to hear". The first command

is to hear that the LORD is one and that you are to love Him with all your heart, soul, and might. To hear, is the first command before the great command. Hearing is the most essential part of our prayer life and true communion will never take place without

it. Think about this and I'll get back to you.
