"If I am able?”
"So they brought the boy to him. When the spirit saw him it immediately through the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and began to foam at the mouth. Jesus asked the father, "How long has this been happening to him?" He said, "From childhood. It has often thrown him into the fire or water to destroy him. But if you are able to do anything have compassion on us and help us." Then Jesus said to him, "If I am able? All things are possible to the one who believes." Mark 9:20-23.
This is a powerful story. Jesus has just come down from the Mount of transfiguration. Having had that amazing encounter in glory and having that amazing affirmation from the Father, declaring,
"This is my one dear son, listen to him." Now he is confronted with a desperate father with a demon possessed son asking him for help. It seems that it was a little insulting to him when the father of the boy asked if he was "able to do anything". He was like, "are you kidding me? I just spoke to Moses and Elijah in the heavenly places, "Am I able?”
Believing God is able is the first hurdle of faith all Christians are faced with in their Christian experience. Is Jesus really able to deal with my problem. Like the father in Mark 9 you are going to hear this challenge time and again. "All things are possible to the one who believes." He hasn't forgotten you, nor is his arm short, that he can't reach you, but all things are possible to the one who believes. "I Am Able!", sayeth the Lord. "Just trust me."
As always, God bless you and keep you.
