Judas
Daily Word - March 1st, 2019 - Pastor Rusty
“Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariat, Simon’s son, which would betray him, `why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence and given to the poor?’ This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and he had the bag, and bare what was put therein.” Luke 12:4-6
I was sharing with a young minister today who had applied for a pastoral position in a traditional church, but had concerns because there were power struggles in this church in the past and there were people in the church who had been known to make trouble for pastors in the past. People who had generational long standing in that particular church and felt they were the guardians of that house, even though traditionally their destructive behavior had crippled the church and had kept it in a state of infancy. I cautioned him about taking on such a position and left it at that. Later on in the day I saw a vision about another power struggle between a pastor and some men in his leadership. These men had a very firm grip on the purse strings in the church and their political unregenerate hearts were pressing to remain in control. I’m not sure these two situations were related but it caused me the think on Judas and his firm grip on the purse strings and was probably the early tell of his ultimate undoing.
When did Judas become JUDAS. It is suggested by some that Judas became disenchanted with Jesus and that Judas was disillusioned by Jesus’ unwillingness to lead a rebellion against Rome. Maybe Jesus just wasn’t political enough.
So let’s see modern day Judas would have strong political views but not strong spiritual views, possibly no spiritual insight at all. He would have, or desire to have, a firm hand on the purse and, oh yea, he would have an unregenerate heart. My goodness he should feel right at home in the modern church world. Just sayin’.
As always God bless.
