(The Rock of escape) Pastor Rusty - May 30, 2023

“For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.” Psa. 27:5

“Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain.” 1 Sam. 23:25-26a.

“Therefore that place is called Sela Hammahlekoth.” 1 Sam. 23:28b

When David was being pursued by King Saul he used the landscape for camouflage. He fought with stealth warfare because he was being targeted by his own people, the children of Israel, all the while fighting and raiding philistine camps and border towns. It’s a paradoxical conundrum warring on multiple fronts against diverse enemies, some of which are from your own household or denomination.🤔 But David found the importance of stealth warfare. Not willing to raise his sword against his own people navigated with a spiritual warfare principle. Don’t project yourself out there. People need to see Jesus, not you. Learn the principle of hiding in the rock. Spiritual warfare 101.

Rule no. 1 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.” Phil. 2:5-7 He made himself of no reputation. Self promotion will never be your friend in the kingdom. It may serve you for awhile in church paradigm (circa 1980) but it will not serve you in the kingdom of God. Stop projecting yourself.

Rule no.2 “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” 2Tim.2:4 Don’t get caught up in family squabbles. You can never walk away without getting stink on you. Politics can also be a swamp of quicksand for the believer. Even when your right your spirit man will suffer. Being conservative is not always equivalent to being righteous. And if your called to spiritual warfare don’t substitute the prayer closet for the polling booth. Just sayin’. But go ahead and get angry with me for saying so, that has always served you well and elevated the peace in your heart. (Not!) Don’t underestimate the value of keeping your spirit man in a state of peace. Being a news junkie will not serve you in this.

Rule No. 3 “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:” Eph. 2:6. You true position of authority is being seated with Christ in heavenly places. Get elevated! “For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God” Col. 3:6.

Father teach us to hide in you. Show us the immense value of being hid in you. Place us in the cleft of the rock and cover us there with your hand. In Jesus name. Amen. Pastor Rusty.
