Broken Cisterns

“For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.” Jer. 2:13

This classic passage seems to be a prophetic reprimand for when we allow religion to be a substitute for relationship. You tend to look at your service towards God to be the extent of your relations to him. Your theology allows you to keep God at arms length with six degrees of separation. The Bible is your road map to heaven you say, but it seems to be a testimony of kingdom conduct on how to be in relation to God.🤔

God wants to fill your life with His presence.

“Stop embracing theology and start embracing God.”

Open your heart and allow the Father to fill its’ chambers with His presence. Let goodness and mercy (Psa. 23:6) be your portion. Allow your your cup be filled to overflowing. (Psa. 23:5). Your belief system can easily become a broken cistern that can hold no water. If your theology is not allowing you to experience His presence then it begs the question what good is it, especially since Jesus died and rose again to give you access to His presence…The manifest presence.

Benefit without relationship.

Modern man’s version of salvation is benefit without relationship. We want what salvation does without embracing who salvation is! This is to your loss. God describes Himself as a fountain of living water not a stagnant pond!🤔 These broken cisterns weren’t cracked pots but rather water reservoirs hewn out of rock in the ground that were indeed unable to hold water. Imagine all the human effort it actually took to create this cistern. That’s what religion is… human effort to reach God. But at the end of the day you have a waterless pit. God is not a cistern but a fountain! “With joy you will draw water from the springs of salvation.” Isa. 12:3. Start drinking from the fountain. Allow God to become up close and personal. “Waters to swim in!”

“Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over.” Eze. 47:5.
