Jehovah Shammah

“The name of the city from that day shall be, THE LORD IS THERE.” — Ezekiel 48:35

The name Jehovah Shammah comes from the Hebrew יְהוָה שָׁמָּה (YHWH Shammah).

* YHWH (יהוה) – The covenant name of God, often translated “LORD.”

* Shammah (שָׁמָּה) – “There,” “present there,” or “in that place.”

Together, Jehovah Shammah means “The LORD Is There.”

This name is revealed at the close of Ezekiel’s prophetic vision. After years of exile, judgment, and the departure of God’s glory from Jerusalem (Ezekiel chapters 10–11), God promises a future where His presence will once again dwell among His people. The greatest blessing is not merely a restored city—it is that God Himself is there.

There is nothing that draws a person like the presence of God. If He is there then I want to be there! Life is to short to set in a religious dry church! You can drink of His spirit! You can dance in His presence! You can feel Him surround you when you stay where He is!

In the New Testament, the Greek word often used for God’s presence is παρουσία (parousia), meaning “presence,” “being with,” or “arrival.” While frequently used of Christ’s future coming, it also reminds us that God’s presence is real, personal, and active among His people.

The truth of Jehovah Shammah is declared by Jesus when he said, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). Before ascending into heaven, He also promised, “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20).

Jehovah Shammah is more than a prophetic name—it is a present reality. When you walk through valleys, face uncertainty, or feel alone, His name reminds you that He has not abandoned you. His presence brings peace in chaos, courage in battle, comfort in sorrow, and hope for tomorrow. His greatest gift has never been merely His blessings—it has always been Himself.

Let's pray;

Father, thank You for revealing Yourself as Jehovah Shammah—The LORD Is There. Help me to live each day aware of Your abiding presence. When fear comes, remind me that You are with me. When I face uncertainty, let Your presence be my confidence. May my life become a dwelling place where others encounter Your peace, Your love, and Your glory, and Your presence! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
