Hearing the Holy Spirit and Knowing His Direction -
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” — John 10:27
The Holy Spirit still speaks to God’s people today. He may speak through Scripture, a quiet prompting in your spirit, godly wisdom, prayer, or circumstances that align with His Word. Learning to recognize His voice requires spending time in His presence.
Be still and listen. We can become so busy asking God for answers that we forget to pause and listen for His direction. The Holy Spirit often speaks gently, bringing clarity and peace rather than confusion and fear. Pray, stop and listen.
Test what you hear. God will never lead you contrary to His Word. If a thought, direction, or prompting contradicts Scripture, it is not the Holy Spirit. Ask God for wisdom and confirmation, and don’t be afraid to wait. Many times we make mistakes because we are discontint and want the answer now! Patience is priceless! If you don't hear from Him, wait. If you hear but are not sure, wait.
Follow what He reveals. Hearing becomes clearer as we obey. When the Holy Spirit directs you in something small, respond in obedience. As you learn His voice, you become more sensitive to His leading.
Sometimes we aren't hearing Him because we don't like His answer. Don't bd a spoilt baby. God always has your best interest at heart! Remember, He can see a lot farther ahead in the future than you can. Trust Him and you will do very well.
While traveling we noticed an object setting in a very small rock sticking out of the ocean. As curious humans I shot a photo and googled it to see what it was. It was a google returned this answer. "This image shows an isolated danger mark or minor light station positioned directly on top of a small, exposed marine hazard (such as a rock or reef) surrounded by navigable water." Just like us navigating thru life's journey, if the captain of a vessel does't observe the warning signs he will become ship wrecked. We must pay attention to the danger signs and pit falls so we can run this race victoriously!
Today, pray: “Holy Spirit, quiet my heart. Help me recognize Your voice, discern Your direction, and give me courage to obey You. Lead me in the way You want me to go. Close all doors that are not you. In Jesus name! Amen!"
“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’” — Isaiah 30:21
