“I tell you the truth, anyone who sneaks over the wall of a sheepfold, rather than going through the gate, must surely be a thief and a robber! But the one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for HIM, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. The won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” John 10:1-5 NLT
This is the classic analogy of the gate keeper, the Shepherd and the flock. The Greek word translated from the early Greek text for gate is the word “thura” which means a door, gate, or portal. What is over looked for the most part is that the gatekeeper (thuróros), is not opening the gate for the sheep, he is opening the gate for the SHEPHERD.🤔 “2But the one who enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3The gatekeeper opens the gate for him.” We still think to lateral and not vertical. Think of it this way the primary responsibility of the thuróros is to open the thura (portal) for the Shepherd to have access to His sheep. We think a gatekeepers primary responsibility it to prevent detriment from coming into our region.🤔 But in fact a gatekeeper will open a door (portal) into the heavenlies for the King to have access to His people. Then he will stand guard over the door (portal).🧐
“He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” The Shepherd will call you by name! Wow! What a masterful dynamic!🧐 To hear your name called by the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. This is getting personal!🤔 Amen! Pastor Rusty
