“Now when Abigail saw David, she dismounted quickly from the donkey, fell on her face before David, and bowed down to the ground.” 1 Sam. 25:23

Abigail is hands-down my favorite of the wives of David. Abigail’s name means “My father is joy”. She at onetime was married to a rich man named Nabal. He was a churlish man whose rudeness almost got him and all his house and servants killed. But his wife Abigail, made intercession for him and saved his life and all the people who served him. She intercepted David who was on his way to kill Nabal and she requited David for her husband’s offense. He later died and when David heard this, he sent for Abigail and took her for his wife. She was his first wife since King Saul took Michal away from David and gave her to another man. Now ancient Jewish commentary says that Abigail was one of the four most beautiful women in the world. (That’s a lofty claim). 🧐 But without a doubt David was taken with her. She had a generous heart and wise spirit along with her beauty made her the trifecta of wives. But her name carries a tell, she was a joy to her father. I’ve seen many professing Christians that are somber and sour, they carry no joy in their life whether by circumstance or nature they have no true joy. Their services are joyless experiences that have no presence in them. All I can say is they’re not representing the heart of Christ. They are angry and sullen believing they are representing Him, but they are not. Here’s a truth. The bride Jesus is coming for will be full of joy unspeakable and full of glory. Be careful lest your anger overwhelm you and you find yourself standing without with a lamp that has no oil.🤔 Mmmm… Pastor Rusty.
