“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” — Romans 13:14 KJV
Freedom in Christ is not only about what Jesus delivers us from—it is also about what we choose to leave behind. When God rescues us from darkness, He expects the doors that once led us there to be closed, locked, and abandoned. Grace breaks the chains, but obedience shuts the doors. One of the keys to staying free is closing every door that leads to your past bondage. If you were bound by porn, keep the door shut by staying away from the temptations.
Paul’s words in Romans 13:14 are direct and practical. To “make not provision for the flesh” means to stop supplying opportunities for the old life to re-enter. You may be forgiven, healed, and renewed, but if old doors remain open—places you revisit, habits you excuse, or relationships that pull you backward—the enemy will always try to return through what was never closed. Shut the door and throw away the key!
Some doors look harmless because they are familiar. Certain environments stir old cravings. Some people unknowingly keep you tied to who you used to be. Old habits awaken old desires. Scripture reminds us that true freedom requires intentional boundaries. Holiness is not punishment—it is protection. Protection from the road to destruction. Remember Satan came to kill, steal, and destroy. John 10:10 10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”KJV
Putting on the Lord Jesus Christ means clothing yourself with His character, His ways, and His wisdom. Jesus never leads us back into darkness to prove we are free. He leads us forward into light—and sometimes that means walking away without looking back.
Closed doors are not signs of fear; they are evidence of wisdom. When God delivers you, He also empowers you to choose differently. You are not weak for setting boundaries—you are wise for guarding your freedom.
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any door that still has access to your past. Then ask the Holy Spirit to close it completely. In your heart shut the door, lock it and walk away. These may seem like small acts but they are very powerful for those wanting to walk free from now on.
Father, I ask that you give wisdom to those reading this. That you show them any door that they may still have open. We want complete freedom! No open doors! Shut them all in Jesus name! Amen.
