The Kingdom Belongs to the Humble - Pastor Belinda🌷- April 9th, 2026
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:3 (KJV)
There is a doorway into the Kingdom of God, and it is not opened by strength, talent, or self-sufficiency—it is opened by humility. It isn’t opened because of who you are but because of who He is.
Jesus begins the Beatitudes with a powerful truth: “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” The word “blessed” comes from the Greek makarios (μακάριος), meaning deeply satisfied, spiritually prosperous, divinely favored. This is not a shallow happiness—it is a state of being anchored in God’s favor.
Who receives this blessing? The “poor in spirit.” The Greek word for “poor” is ptōchos (πτωχός), which means to be utterly destitute, completely dependent on another for sustenance. It paints a picture of someone who has nothing—and knows it. When you are that person there is no self pride involved.
Spiritually, this means recognizing our complete need for God. It is the posture that says, “Lord, without You, I have nothing. I am nothing.” This is totally opposite of what the world teaches. The world teaches self worth, pride in who you are.
The Kingdom functions in the opposite of pride.
- Humility: The Posture of the Kingdom -
In the Old Testament, humility carries a similar depth. The Hebrew word ʿānāw (עָנָו) means lowly, meek, afflicted, and dependent upon God. It is not weakness—it is strength that has been surrendered.
Moses is described as very meek (Numbers 12:3), yet he confronted Pharaoh. David walked in humility, yet he defeated giants. True humility is not thinking less of yourself—it is thinking rightly of God. It is knowing that it isn’t your ability but His ability.
Why Humility Unlocks the Kingdom
Jesus said, “for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Notice—it does not say will be, but is. The Kingdom belongs now to those who walk in humility. Why?
Because:
• The humble are teachable
• The humble are dependent
• The humble make room for God’s power
Pride fills the heart with self. Humility empties the heart so God can fill it.
Are You Walking in Humility?
Ask yourself honestly:
• Do I rely on God daily, or only when I’m in trouble?
• Do I resist correction, or receive it with a teachable spirit?
• Do I seek recognition, or do I seek God’s presence?
Those are definite “tells” if what camp you are functioning in.
Humility is not a one-time act—it is a daily posture. It is a continued process. We have to watch that we don’t become like the old saying “ I am humble and proud of it!”
Humility is not weakness—it is the key that unlocks the Kingdom.
Lord, empty me of pride and self-reliance. Teach me to walk in true humility. I recognize my need for You in every area of my life. Make me poor in spirit, that I may inherit Your Kingdom. Let my life reflect dependence, surrender, and trust in You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
