In Luke 10, we see two expressions of love. Martha served with urgency. Mary sat with intention. One was busy doing for Jesus; the other was being with Him.

Martha wasn’t wrong for serving—her heart was to honor the Lord. But she became distracted, pulled in many directions, until her service lost its peace. Meanwhile, Mary chose stillness. She positioned herself at His feet, listening, receiving, resting in His presence.

“But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” — Luke 10:42 (KJV)

Jesus didn’t rebuke Martha’s service—He corrected her priority. There is a “one thing” that must come first. Presence before performance. Communion before commission.

The world rewards activity. Heaven honors intimacy.

When we sit at His feet, everything else finds its proper place. Our service becomes overflow instead of obligation. Our labor becomes worship instead of striving.

Mary chose what could not be taken—time with Him. That is the portion that sustains, strengthens, and transforms.

Where has busyness replaced intimacy in your life?

Let’s pray:

Lord, quiet my heart. Teach me to choose the better part. Help me to sit at Your feet before I run to serve. Let my life flow from Your presence, not pressure. In Jesus’ name, amen.
