Digging In With Faith When the Enemy Attacks

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” — Ephesians 6:16 (KJV)

There are seasons in life when it feels like the enemy has turned up the heat. Problems come from every direction. Discouragement whispers in your ear. Fear tries to grip your heart. Circumstances seem to contradict what God has promised.

Maybe you have heard the Lord ask you to do something and you were obedient only to get attacked after obedience.

When these attacks come, our natural tendency is often to retreat, question God, or give up. Yet Scripture teaches us another response: dig in with faith.

A soldier in battle does not abandon his position when the fighting becomes intense. He plants his feet firmly and holds his ground. In the same way, believers are called to stand upon the promises of God regardless of what they see, hear, or feel.

One example I like is what the Native Americans called a “Dog Warrior”. When the enemy would be coming the warrior would tie his ankle to a steak. We would drive it into the ground in front of what he was defending and when the enemy came he could not run but had to fight to death if needed.

…and having done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:13

Faith is not denying that the battle exists. Faith is declaring that God is greater than the battle.

David understood this principle. When Goliath mocked Israel and threatened God’s people, David did not focus on the size of the giant. He focused on the greatness of God. While others were retreating in fear, David dug in with faith and declared, “The battle is the LORD’S” (1 Samuel 17:47).

The enemy wants you to abandon your confidence. He wants you to believe that your prayers are ineffective, your promises are forgotten, and your future is hopeless. But God’s Word says:

“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.” — Hebrews 10:35 (KJV)

Sometimes victory comes not by advancing but by refusing to move backward. Stand on God’s Word. Continue to worship. Keep praying when you don’t feel like praying. Continue believing when circumstances seem impossible.

Every fiery dart of the enemy can be extinguished by faith. Every lie can be defeated by truth. Every attack can become an opportunity for God to demonstrate His power.

If you are under attack, do not retreat. Dig your heels into the promises of God. Tie your ankle to the steak like the “dog warrior”. Lift up your shield of faith. Stand firm in Christ. The God who called you is faithful, and He will not abandon you in the battle.

Let’s pray. Father, I ask that in the midst of battle you will give us strength to stand. That we will be strong and stand on your word and your promises! Fill us with courage, peace, and confidence in Your Word. Let our faith arise! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
