“6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:6-8

The book of Acts takes up in that period after the death and resurrection of Jesus but before His ascension. Christ spent 40 days talking to His disciples about things pertains to the Kingdom of God. Toward the end of those forty days the disciples asked, “Lord, will you now restore the kingdom to Israel?” Jesus responds, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that theFather has fixed by His own authority.” Isn’t it interesting how much emphasis modern Christianity has placed on understanding the times and seasons (eschatology) as if this defines Christianity; but listen to what was of supreme importance to the heart of Christ… 🤔 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses!” Two things were of importance… receiving POWER and becoming WITNESSES! One… you cannot become His witness without receiving power. Two… you will become his witness when you do. Christianity in a nutshell is receiving the Holy Spirit.🧐 Christianity is not defined by ideology but the power of the Holy Spirit in you.🤔 Christianity is not a self improvement program on how to be a better person but rather the Holy Spirit living inside of you. “Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” (Rom. 8) The Holy Spirit in you is God’s empowerment program. The word power is from the Greek word “dunamis”. It where we get the English word dynamo or dynamite.💥 Power to live for Him, think like Him, become like Him, even act like Him. The Jesus model of empowerment is to have the SAME SPIRIT. “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” (Rom. 8:11).
