“Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth.” Isa. 42:10a

Hark the Herald Angels Sing was a song written and sung by reformers 300 years ago. It was originally written by Charles Wesley, brother to John Wesley, great evangelist and reformer in England. It was later rewritten by George Whitefield, reformer and missionary to early America. Whitefield’s version more closely resembles the modern version we sing today. It was revised again in 1961 into the Christmas hymn we sing today. It seems every reformation, visitation, or move of God is accompanied with an innovative worship and release of new song. Every revival/renewal is infused with a new sound from heaven. It becomes its own trademark.

Longevity seems to be a key trademark that one has tapped into the song of heaven. Some of these songs have become anthems the leave a lasting memorial that something significant has transpired. Much like the patriarchs of old were required to memorialized and event or divine intervention from YHWH, by building a stone memorial for generations to come, so does the song from heaven create a lasting memorial with words and sounds of praise, for generations to come. David Ruis once said, “When a song of praise is still being sung by the church twenty years after it was written, it’s a good indication of God’s influence on the song.”

There is an amazing sound coming from the Bride in this season. I believe it’s an indicator of God’s influence upon the house! The fact that we still sing a 300 year old hymn and give God the glory with it is a testiment to those early reformers. This Christmas blend the old with the new and see how heaven reacts.🤔 Merry Christmas and, God bless. Pastor Rusty.
