“Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core (Korah). Jude 1:11

The reformation was born in part to the Roman Catholic Church selling “indulgences”. This was one of the key complaints made by Martin Luther. This became a “pay to play” where clergy in the Roman Catholic order prayed for penance to shorten the time one’s loved one must spend in purgatory.

When the writer of Jude’s epistle references the “error of Balaam” he is referencing in part Balaam’s willingness to be a prophet for hire during the time of the Exodus. This nature had evidently recycled itself during the Christian Era. It has been present no doubt throughout Church history and is still present today. I am wary of any modern “pay to pray” situations in modern church. You might say, “But that’s the way it’s done now days.” Or, “Others do it this way.” That Is neither an exoneration or an excuse. I promise you your master did not “pay to pray” and you definitely did not consult with Him on doing so.🤔 Tables are tipping and wheels are falling off of Egyptian chariots (unregenerate schemes). The Lord says, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” Matt. 11:17.

Some make the assumption Balaam was a false prophet to begin with or that he was a prophet of Baal by virtue of his name. He was not. He evidently could hear the voice of the Lord quite clearly. But the pull of power and money was corrupting, and he was willing to sell his gifting to the highest bidder.

A few years back a rising prophet was coming to Dallas Texas. I thought about going just to meet him, but the price of admission was too high… I mean really high!

Have we become a culture of hirelings. One of the reasons I found a billionaire so appealing in this last election is I felt he wouldn’t be for sale (seeing he already had wealth) as opposed to every politician who became a millionaire AFTER they came into office. 🤔 If you function in the ministry and you put a price on you’re time you need to consider whether you’re a hireling or not or whether you’re following the error of Balaam. Tables are tipping!!🤔…. Pastor Rusty.
