Smith Wigglesworth: “Only Believe”

“Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” — Mark 9:23 (KJV)

Smith Wigglesworth was a simple plumber from England who became known around the world for extraordinary miracles. Blind eyes opened, cripples walked, and people were healed of terminal diseases through his ministry. Yet Wigglesworth constantly said the secret was not in him — it was in believing God’s Word completely.

He was known for saying, “I am not moved by what I see. I am moved only by what I believe.”

Wow! If we can grasp that and truly walk in it just imagine what can happen!

One story tells of a woman who came desperately ill and near death. Doctors had given up. Wigglesworth prayed boldly, declaring life over her in the name of Jesus. She recovered completely. His confidence was not in feelings, symptoms, or circumstances. His confidence was in the authority of Christ.

Many believers today struggle because they look more at the mountain than the Master. Fear speaks loudly, but faith speaks louder when it is rooted in God’s promises.

Faith is not pretending problems do not exist. Faith is believing God is greater than the problem.

What situation in your life have you allowed fear to speak louder than faith?

Let’s pray for faith to believe!

Father, help me to believe Your Word above every circumstance. Teach me to walk by faith and not by sight. Let my heart become steadfast in trusting You completely. In Jesus’ name, amen.
