Sacrifice

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you.…” John 15:14-16.
Modern culture has trained us to look for love as an emotional experience. We are an emotion driven culture. There are different catalyst and stimulations, such as romantic love, paternal love, love for creation (pets, etc…), love for family, self love.🤔 Jesus describes the greatest of all love… sacrificial love. In modern culture this barely makes a blimp on the radar, yet there is no greater love than this. Setting aside what’s important to you and putting others interest ahead of yours. Most parents have this instinctively built in to their spiritual makeup but some do not. I fear we’ve failed to train future generations on the power of sacrificial love. It is not sensual nor self serving, it doesn’t seek its own. ❤️
When there is no sacrifice involved one cannot experience this necessary building stone. If it doesn’t cost you then you can’t receive the spiritual benefit that comes from sacrifice. Part of heaven will always elude your Christian experience. Trust me, there will be pain in the cup, to love as Christ loves us.🤔 But there is special reward for those who tap into the greatest love.❤️ Self serving scales fall from your eyes. You begin to see the world as He sees it. So you get a chance pass the last piece of pie to your neighbor, open an opportunity for someone else, give the widows mite, break the alabaster box, let love manifest In a million sacrificial ways and see what Holy mystics experienced. And lay down your life in love.
Pastor Rusty.
