Empty hearts fall; nourished hearts stand

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” — Matthew 4:4 (KJV)

When Jesus spoke these words, He was hungry after fasting forty days in the wilderness. The enemy tempted Him to satisfy His physical need instantly. Instead of responding from His flesh, Jesus responded from the Word. When you fill your spirit man with God’s word you have equipped yourself to stand against the enemy.

Just as bread strengthens the physical body, God’s Word strengthens the inner man. Without it, our spirit grows weak, our thoughts become confused, and our faith becomes fragile. People often try to fill spiritual hunger with comfort, entertainment, relationships, or success, but none of those things can nourish the soul the way God’s Word can.

Try to feed your spirit daily. One way is to read or listen to audio Bible. It’s so easy now days to just click a button and you have so many resources for feeding your spirit! You will learn new things and grow in the Lord as you do.

Jesus showed us that victory comes through dependence on what “proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” That means His Word is not just something He spoke in the past—it is living, active, and still flowing today. Every time you open the Bible, God is feeding your spirit.

Be careful to not let your spirit become dehydrated, that means you need to drink in His presence! As you eat the word and drink in His presence you will be surprised at how well your life will become. The ups and downs will level out. You won’t be depressed or oppressed. Those “bad days” will become less and less! Yay!

Feed your spirit and watch God use you more and more!
