“And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.” — John 6:11 (KJV)

When the multitudes followed Jesus into a deserted place, there was no bakery nearby, no market open, and no human plan that could feed five thousand hungry souls. Yet, what was impossible for man became a moment for God’s miraculous provision.

Jesus took a small boy’s lunch—just five barley loaves and two small fish 🐠🐠🍞🍞—and gave thanks. He didn’t look at what was lacking; He looked to His Father, who is more than enough. Out of His hands, the little became much. The people didn’t just get a taste—they ate “as much as they wanted.” And when they were filled, there were twelve baskets of leftovers—one for each disciple to carry as a reminder that God’s supply never runs out.

We have witnessed the hand of God multiply the turkeys on the Lakota reservation years ago on a Thanksgiving week. We counted the turkeys as we took them off the truck, we counted them as we placed them in the council building, we had the amount they needed which should have made us short for the next stop, but it didn’t! There were exactly the amount we needed for the next stop!

I witnessed this in Nicaragua one time when we did not have enough rice. We gave it out to the people and when we were finished there was rice left! The secrete was that we laid hands on our rice and specifically asked God to multiply it so we would have enough! And God answered!

We often face seasons that feel like those five loaves and two fish—too small to meet the need, too little to make a difference. But Jesus still takes what we have, blesses it, and multiplies it when we place it in His hands. The same Savior who fed the multitude is still feeding His people today. He provides not only for our physical needs but for our souls—He is the Bread of Life (John 6:35).

When you trust Him, He doesn’t just give you enough to survive—He fills you until you overflow. His provision is abundant, personal, and full of grace.

No matter what lack you’re facing—be it finances, food, strength, direction, or peace—remember: Jesus already sees the need and has the solution. When you place your trust in Him, He will take care of you in ways that go beyond your imagination. You may not see how, but He already knows what He will do (John 6:6).

Let me pray with you. Jesus I ask that you provide during this tough time. That you bring provision in from directions we didn’t see! Give us wisdom on what to do and when to do. Show us you are Lord of all. Meet the needs of those in need. In Jesus name! Amen!
