I will be a Father to you

This Sunday is Father’s Day. There are those who have no father here on earth because he may have already passed. There are those who had a father who was abusive. You may cringe at the thoughts of what he put you thru. Then there are those who had a good life and wonderful memories of their father. I pray that the latter is your report, but I know it isn’t true for everyone. I have spent many hours praying in my office with those who are dealing with the troubles your father left you in. The Lord says in 2 Corinthians 6:18 that He will be a father to you. The Lord God is making you an offer. If you will come out from among them, the world, and touch not the unclean thing, dedicate yourself to Him, He will be your father. He will heal your wounds.

2 Corn. 6:18

“I will be a Father to you,
    and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

I know of only one way to deal with the trauma caused by an ungodly father and that’s to hand that ungodly father over to the Lord. Release him to be judged by a just God. And then ask the Lord to take all the unspeakable trauma away from your memory. God will soften the sting of those memories.

Make a commitment to the Lord that from this day forward you will be His child. You may make mistakes, but God is great at forgiving when we ask. Be quick to repent. 1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

I pray all of you fathers have a wonderful Father’s Day. If you have a man of God in your life let him know you appreciate his walk with God.

“Father, I ask that you help those who have had a tramatic childhood. Bring forgiveness into their lives. Pour healing into old wounds. Cause those who have a broken relationship with their fathers find unity again. Cause the work of the enemy to be destroyed! In Jesus name! Amen!”
