Keepers of the Flame -

Pastor Rusty - April 23rd, 2024

“As soon as Solomon finished his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.” 2 Chron. 7:1

I came across something that I found intriguing concerning this passage. It’s a rabbinical teaching that the fire that came from heaven on the day when King Solomon prayed that prayer of dedication was kept perpetually burning for the next 400 years (they simply gave it fuel) till the Babylonian’s destroyed the temple in 587 BC. The Levites in the temple were stewards and caretakers of the flame of God that fell from heaven on that day for 400 years. This would have been the fire used on the altar of incense in the Holy Place and the fire used to trim the lamps in the temple. They simply kept the flame burning in the court on the Brazen Altar continually. They were The Keepers of the Flame. As God’s fire continues to show up at these prayer gatherings around the Ozarks and across this nation, understand that one of our priestly responsibilities is to be True Keepers of the Flame. We are to steward it, continue to feed it fuel, and transfer it to other locations including the sanctuaries throughout the churches in the region. If we are to be Kings and priests in the Kingdom of our God, then let us accept the responsibility of being keepers of the Flame. Amen.

“Holy Father, entrust us with the Flame of God. Cause fire to fall from heaven. Do it again Lord! Let fire fall! Fire fall! In Jesus name! Amen!” – Pastor Rusty
