Trauma comes in many forms—loss, betrayal, abuse, failure, or even witnessing suffering. It shakes us to the core, leaving scars we may carry for years. Sometimes, it feels like we will never be the same again. It’s as though a part of us is broken, beyond repair. But God’s Word promises that He is near to the brokenhearted and He has the power to heal us.
God never promises that life will be free from hardship, but He does promise that He will be with us through it all. When I minister to someone in my office who has experienced trauma I will lead them thru a prayer. I explain to them that God always has been and always will be. Then we pray and I ask the Lord to go back in time to the event that caused the trauma. I pray that He will hold them and release the pain. It is the testimony over and over that they experience the healing arms of Jesus! He was there and he removes the sharp pain of the trauma.
The Psalms remind us that God sees us in our pain and He has a way of transforming our wounds into sources of strength. Healing is a process, and it can take time—but in the midst of it, we are not abandoned.
When we experience trauma, we can turn to God, bringing our pain to Him as an offering. He is a gentle healer who knows how to bind our wounds and restore our spirits. In fact, it is often in our brokenness that we encounter God’s presence in a deeper way than we ever could have imagined.
The Path to Healing:
1. Acknowledge the Pain: Healing begins with acknowledging the trauma. It's okay to admit the hurt and feel the emotions. God doesn’t expect us to mask our pain; He invites us to bring it before Him in prayer. As the Psalmist wrote, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18). When we are vulnerable with God, we open ourselves up to His transforming love.
2. Lean on God's Promises: We can draw strength from the promises of Scripture. God has promised that He will never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). In moments of despair, we need to remember that His love is constant, and He is always ready to comfort us.
3. Allow Time for Healing: Just as physical wounds take time to heal, emotional wounds also require time. It’s easy to become frustrated when healing doesn’t seem to happen quickly, but trust that God works in His own time, and He will bring restoration in ways that we might not even expect. We generally see healing like deliverance sometimes happens in layers.
4. Move Forward in Hope: There is a beautiful promise that God can bring good even from the most painful experiences. Romans 8:28 tells us, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." As you continue on your healing journey, know that God will use your pain for His purposes. Your scars can become a testament to His faithfulness.
Let me pray over you.
“Father, I ask you to bring healing to those in need physically and emotionally. I pray against walls of pain that have been built and I ask for the Holy Spirit to remove those walls. Let your healing live flow! In Jesus names! Amen!”
May the power of an over comer raise up inside of you!
