And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Colossians 3:15

Peace is evidence that God dwells within. Guard that peace.

A house that is truly filled with the presence of God carries a certain atmosphere. It is not merely the absence of noise or conflict, but the presence of peace. When God dwells within a heart, peace becomes the standard of that life. No God, No peace.

The word “peace” in Colossians 3:15 comes from the Greek word εἰρήνη (eirēnē), meaning quietness, rest, harmony, and a state of well-being that results when things are rightly aligned with God. It speaks of an inward calm produced by the assurance that God is in control. When God is in control we will be in His will.

This Greek word parallels the rich Hebrew concept of שָׁלוֹם (shalom). Shalom means far more than the absence of war; it implies wholeness, completeness, welfare, safety, and flourishing under God’s favor. When God fills a life, shalom settles into the heart like a steady atmosphere. There is nothing like the peace you will experience when you are walking in God’s presence.

Paul also says, “let the peace of God rule in your hearts.”

The word “rule” is the Greek βραβεύω (brabeuō), meaning to act as an umpire, referee, or judge in deciding a matter. In ancient games, the brabeuō was the official who determined the outcome.

In other words, peace is meant to be the referee of the believer’s heart. Your whole house will function with ease. Arguments with your spouse will be absent. Even the disobedience in your children will stop as you make God Lord of your house. It’s up to you. You make the choice every day to either walk in His peace or not.

When decisions arise, when conflict presses in, or when anxiety begins to stir, the Spirit-filled believer learns to listen for the ruling of peace. If peace withdraws, it is often the Spirit signaling caution. When peace remains, it is often confirmation that we are walking in alignment with God. If you see Gods peace leave find out what happened and correct it.

Peace is therefore evidence that the house is occupied by the Lord of Lords.

Just as a home filled with love and order feels different from one filled with chaos, a heart filled with God carries a distinct spiritual atmosphere. The Holy Spirit produces a settled calm that the world cannot manufacture. That peace only comes from the Lord.

Jesus spoke of this when He said:“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.” — John 14:27 (KJV)

The world’s peace depends on circumstances.

God’s peace depends on presence.

When the Prince of Peace lives within, storms may rage outside, but the interior house remains steady.

Because peace is so precious, Scripture tells us to guard it.

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:7 (KJV)

The word “keep” here (Greek φρουρέω – phroureō ) means to garrison, guard like soldiers protecting a city. God’s peace actually stands guard over the believer’s heart and mind.

When we cultivate gratitude, humility, and surrender, we maintain the atmosphere where peace thrives. But when we entertain fear, bitterness, or striving, the atmosphere becomes disturbed.

Therefore, we must become stewards of peace.

Guard your heart from voices that agitate it.

Guard your mind from thoughts that disturb it.

Guard your spirit from attitudes that grieve the Holy Spirit.

When the house is filled with God, peace becomes the air you breathe.

When people step into the presence of someone who walks with God, they often sense it immediately. There is a calm strength, a settled spirit, and a quiet assurance that the Lord is present in that house. That is what we want. That is how we should live, Heaven on earth because we are carriers of His presence.

Change your home, change your environment. Let’s walk in His peace!

Thank you Father for giving us the access to such wonderful peace! Help us maintain it and live in it every day. Show us how to stay in Your presence! Help us remove things in our lives that rob us of Your presence. We give you all the glory and thanks! In Jesus name! Amen!
