“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” James 5:14

Presbuteros is the Greek word translated “elder” not only in the verse above but throughout the New Testament. It is where we get the word presbytery.🤔 when you think of presbytery you think of governing elders throughout all religious communities. Not necessarily clergy but men and women who have distinguished themselves longstanding in their church communities in service to Christ. But when it comes to praying for the sick it would imply more than just modern deacon boards or bean counters or people solely governing over the finances. It would imply that the original “presbuteros” were men of God who were in right fellowship with the Father and the Son. When it comes to being in need of prayer for sickness that there would be a presbyter (eldership) that one could seek out for this task. Men and women who could pray “effectual fervent prayer that avails much!” If you are seeking ordained men and women for this task then you ought to at least ask yourself, “Ordained by who?” Seeing that most ordinations are by men not God! No… most “presbuteros” are tried by fire and firmly hold the Father’s hand. But are able to lay ahold the Father for the needs of humanity when asked. The Lord is rectifying the absence of the “presbuteros” all over the nation. He is going to forge them and then fire them up for the hurt and needy to find them. I would not look in the cathedrals just yet. But you will find them in basements and in constant gatherings of prayer… just sayin’ Amen! Pastor Rusty
