“Tell me, you whom my soul loves,
where you pasture your flock,
where you make it lie down at noon;
for why should I be like one who veils herself
beside the flocks of your companions?”
“If you do not know,
O most beautiful among women,
follow in the tracks of the flock,
and pasture your young goats
beside the shepherds’ tents.” SOS 1:7-8
I love this passage from the Song of Solomon. It reveals passion and hunger of someone who is not content to sit with her lover’s companions. “I want you!” It’s about not being content to just getting things second hand. It’s about personal intimacy with the Lord. It’s about moving from being an acquaintance to being a lover.❤️🔥
He directs her to follow the sheeps’ path to the shepherds’ tents (mishkan). Now most translations render this plural though it doesn’t necessarily appear plural in the Hebrew. You think maybe it’s because the word shepherds (ra’ah) appears plural but it does not. It is also singular. It appears to be the preference of the translators to render this plural instead of “shepherd’s tent”. 🤔 The truth is, spiritually, it is difficult to give directions to where you yourself have never been.
God gave Moses instructions to bring the Hebrew children to the mountain upon which he (Moses) was standing. The mount of the burning bush 🔥. This was Mount Sinai.🤔 The one and the same. The place where the Ten Commandments were given.
“God answered, “I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain.” Exo. 3:12.
Politicians seem to say, “Tell me where you are going and I will lead you.” True leadership tends to come from taking people where you yourself have been. 🤔 Jesus said, “No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.” John 3:13.
And again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen.” Jn. 3:11.
There is special grace in this season to press into the Father to explore the depths of His love. May you find yourself at His tent. Time and again. Amen!
“While the king was at his table, my perfume spread its fragrance.” SOS 1:12. Pastor Rusty
