“Before the men lay down, she came up to them on the roof and said to the men, “I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction. And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the LORD your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath. Now then, please swear to me by the LORD that, as I have dealt kindly with you, you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a sure sign That you will save alive my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and deliver our lives from death.” And the men said to her, “Our life for yours even to death! If you do not tell this business of ours, then when the LORD gives us the land we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.” Joshua 2:8-14

I find this story remarkable. A Canaanite prostitute from Jericho had faith and insight to see that the Most High God was in covenant with Israel and that The LORD (YHWH) was going to give the land to His people. We think solely that Rahab simply protected the spies that had come into her house and let them escape through a window in the outer wall. No, she made covenant with the people of the covenant. She made them make covenant with her that saved her whole house. She could see the invisible God of heaven and earth at work among His people and saw a ticket out of destruction that saved her whole family. I imagine there were nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers, and mother and father, in debt to her insight. She became King David’s great great-grand mother. She is also found in the lineage of Jesus. She was the mother of Boaz who married Ruth.

In the midrash (rabbinical literature) states that she was among the four most beautiful women in the world, that included Sarah, Abigail, and Ester.🤔 mmm… Either way she deserves honorable mention as one of the most amazing women in the Bible. Hey, we didn’t all start out as princesses 👸 . God in His great mercy and infinite wisdom deliberately included Rahab in the history of Christ for a reason. So don’t count yourself out or feel disqualified from being used because of your past life. “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” Col 3:3
