“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” — Romans 12:2 (KJV)

Freedom in Christ doesn’t stop at being set free spiritually—it continues as God begins transforming the way you think.

Deliverance breaks chains, but renewal rewires the mind. You may no longer belong to darkness, yet old thought patterns can still whisper lies: You’ll always be this way. God can’t really use you. This is just who you are. Those thoughts don’t come from God—they come from a mind that hasn’t yet been fully renewed.

Paul tells us not to be conformed to this world. The world shapes thinking through fear, pride, shame, and self-effort. But God doesn’t just clean up behavior—He transforms us from the inside out. The Greek word for “transformed” (metamorphoō) speaks of a complete change in form—like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. The change is real, visible, and lasting.

Renewing the mind happens as truth replaces lies. As Scripture fills your thoughts, the Holy Spirit reshapes your inner world. Old mindsets lose their grip. New desires form. Discernment grows. You begin to recognize God’s will—not as distant or confusing, but as good, acceptable, and perfect. You take on the new man. Old things are past away and behold all things are made new. (2 Corinthians 5:17,)

This is where lasting freedom is protected. When the mind is renewed, the enemy loses access. When our thoughts line up with truth, peace becomes your normal.

Now let’s look at the Greek in the scripture , “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Romans 12:2

Let’s look at the word “Conformed” the Greek: syschēmatízō (συσχηματίζω)

Strong’s: G4964 meaning:

To shape oneself according to a pattern, to fashion outwardly, to conform to an external mold.

This word speaks of an outward, temporary shaping—putting on an appearance that matches the world’s system. It does not imply an inward change, only a surface-level adaptation. The world pressures us to think, react, and live according to its values, but God warns us not to let that external mold press us into its shape. Conformity changes behavior without changing the heart.

Now the word “Transformed” in the Greek: metamorphóō (μεταμορφόω) Strong’s: G3339

Meaning:To be changed into another form, to undergo a complete inner transformation.

This is where we get the English word metamorphosis. Unlike conformity, this change begins within and results in an outward manifestation. It is the same word used to describe Jesus’ transfiguration (Matthew 17:2). This transformation is the work of the Holy Spirit, not self-effort. We cannot do this transformation ourselves it comes thru submission to the Holy Spirit. We submit to the Father allowing him to remove the old and transform us into a child of the Kingdom.

You were set free so you could think free. Renewing your mind is critical for walking out your new life.
