“Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.” — Leviticus 20:7 (KJV)

Sanctified Means Set Apart

To be sanctified is to be set apart for a sacred purpose. The Hebrew word used in this verse is “qadash” (קָדַשׁ) — meaning to consecrate, to dedicate, to make holy. It’s not just about being clean, but about being claimed. When God sanctifies you, He marks you as His own — separated from the world and dedicated for His glory.

Being sanctified isn’t achieved by dressing your flesh a certain way but it is achieved by laying your heart on the alter and allowing God to cleanse you inside and out. Outward cleansing alone is not enough. Have you ever met a person who “looks” holy but inside they are full of bitterness and dead man’s bones? They aren’t walking in God’s sanctification but self sanctification. We want Holy Ghost sanctification!

We also live in a world that constantly tries to blur the lines between holy and common, between sacred and secular. But God still calls His people to stand out — to live as vessels that carry His presence. Sanctification is not only about what we avoid, but who we belong to.

A Work of the Spirit

Sanctification begins at salvation — when we are washed by the blood of Jesus — but it continues daily as we yield to the Holy Spirit.

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)

The Greek word for sanctify here is “hagiazō” (ἁγιάζω) — meaning to make holy, to purify, to consecrate. The Spirit works within us to purify our desires, transform our thoughts, and bring our actions into alignment with the will of God.

It’s also not a one-time act but a continual surrender. The more we walk with Him, the more we are changed into His likeness.

Sanctified for Service

We are sanctified unto the Lord — not only separated from sin but unto purpose.

“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use.” — 2 Timothy 2:20–21 (KJV)

When we choose holiness, we become ready for His use — vessels of honor that carry His glory into the world. Sanctification isn’t about pride or perfection, but preparation. God wants clean vessels through which His Spirit can freely flow.

Being sanctified is not about isolation, but about consecration. It’s about living every day with the awareness that you belong to God — that your words, actions, and even your thoughts are instruments of His kingdom.

Let me pray with you.

“Lord, I yield myself to You today. Sanctify me by Your truth and purify my heart. Let my life bring glory to Your name. Make me a vessel unto honor, fit for Your service. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
