The Gift of Discerning Spirits is a very valuable gift to have as you move forward on your Christian walk. The ability to discern whether or not something is coming from God, or a demonic spirit at play. This ability is worth having.
Discernment is found in several verses in the Bible. Hebrew 5:14 says, “14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
We were in the mountains of Costa Rica ministering at a church and we had a group of young college age students with us from Mississippi. Toward the end of the service an invitation was given for those who wanted prayer to come forward. I was still on the platform when I heard my name being called. I went to see what was wrong. There stood several young ladies from Mississippi over a Costa Rican woman. I bent down to check it out. At this point it was discernment that I had to use. The discerning of the spirit the lady had was demonic. I laid my hands on her and commanded the demon to come out of her. She was instantly set free! I returned to the platform where I could see what was happening in the room. I then heard my name again. It was the young ladies again. They pointed at another woman who lay on the floor shaking. I moved closer to discern who was moving in her. Was it Satan again on another woman? Nope, it was the Lord! She was on the floor being blessed by God so much that she was shaking. I then informed the young ladies. I said, “that is God working on her so we leave that one alone. The other one was the devil, so we cast it out. You have to be able to tell “who” is at work. Leave God and get rid of the devil.” It was a very hands on lesson in discernment for the young ladies. God wants us to know who is working.
If you do not have the ability to discern then ask the Father to give it to you. Then start watching and learn to discern the spirits.
