THE OIL THAT WOULD NOT RUN OUT

“Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons can live on the rest.” — 2 Kings 4:7

There are times in life when we look at what we have and wonder, “How is this ever going to be enough?” We may see an empty bank account, an unexpected bill, a need in our family, or circumstances that seem far greater than the resources in our hands.

But God has never been limited by what we can see.

In 2 Kings 4, we read about a widow whose husband had died, leaving her with a debt she could not pay. The creditor was coming to take her two sons as servants. She was desperate, but she cried out to the prophet Elisha.

Elisha asked her a simple question:

“Tell me, what do you have in your house?”

She answered, “Your servant has nothing there at all, except a little oil.”

It didn’t look like much. Big when upu add God into the equation all things change!

A little oil didn’t seem capable of solving a great financial crisis. But that little bit of oil was exactly what God chose to use.

Elisha told her to go to her neighbors and borrow as many empty jars as she could. Then she was to go inside with her sons, shut the door, and pour the oil into the jars. She obeyed. And something supernatural happened. The oil kept flowing!

One jar was filled, then another, and another, and another. The oil did not stop because God was supplying what she could not produce herself. When there were no more jars, the oil stopped.

She went back to Elisha, and he told her to sell the oil, pay her debt, and live on what remained.

God didn’t merely give her enough to survive that moment. He provided for her future and for her sons!

I personally have witnessed supernatural multiplication! Twice! Once on the Lakota Reservation God supernaturally multipied frozen turkeys we had been giving out for Thanksgiving! We counted how many came off the truck and how many we had left, somewhere along the line God multiplied those turkeys! God added more, exactly the amount we needed but did not have!

Then once in the mountains of Nicarauga God multiplied our rice. Again we gave out more which should have made us short but we had left overs!! We had laid hands on the rice at the beginning and asked God to multiply it because we knew we should run out! But we never did run out! And we had rice left over! Thats my God!

GOD CAN USE WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE

Sometimes we are waiting for God to give us something new when He is asking us to surrender what is already in our hands.

The widow saw “only a little oil.”

God saw a source of provision.

What looks insignificant to us can become abundant when it is placed in God’s hands.

Moses had a staff.

David had a sling.

A young boy had five loaves and two fish.

The widow had a little oil.

God has always been able to take something small and use it for something far greater than we could imagine.

TRUST GOD WHEN YOU CANNOT SEE THE ANSWER

The widow had every reason to be afraid. She knew what was coming. She knew her resources were insufficient. But she chose to obey the word of the Lord. Faith does not mean that we pretend the need isn’t real. Faith means we believe that our God is greater than the need!

You may not know how God is going to provide.

You may not see where the answer is coming from.

You may look at what you have and think, “This isn’t enough.”

But God knows what you need before you ask Him.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19

Your responsibility is not to figure out every detail of how God will provide. Your responsibility is to trust Him, obey Him, and put what you have into His hands.

DON’T LIMIT GOD BY THE SIZE OF YOUR JAR

The widow needed empty jars.

The oil continued to flow as long as there were vessels to receive it.

This reminds us to make room for God.

Make room in your faith.

Make room in your prayer.

Make room in your expectation.

Make room for God to work in ways you cannot see.

🔥The miracle was that the little she had became more than enough because God was involved.🔥

Father, I thank You that You are my Provider. When I look at my circumstances and feel like I don’t have enough, help me to look to You instead of looking at my lack. Teach me to trust You like the widow trusted You. Help me to surrender what I have into Your hands and obey You even when I cannot see the outcome. Provide for every need in my life and in my family. Give me wisdom, faith, strength, and peace. Help me not to limit You by what I can see. I believe You are able to make a way where there seems to be no way. In Jesus name, amen!
