Under His Covering

I sat down this evening to layout a book I had written about our granddaughter and how she had experienced a tornado and a house fire all in one day. We are so thankful for God’s protection that our family was ok. After working on the book for quite awhile I stopped and as I was reflecting on what I wanted to write for the blog I couldn’t help but think of the power of God’s protection toward His children. He covers us not sometimes but always. Every day over and over. So I began writing on Psalms 91:1 “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

God’s protection is not distant—it is dwelling. The promise of Psalm 91 is not just that God visits us in trouble, but that He invites us to live continually in His presence. The “secret place” speaks of intimacy, a hidden life with God where fear loses its voice. Fear has no power when we are living in God’s presence. We know the Father is watching over us!

The word “shadow” in Hebrew is tsel (צֵל)—a covering, a defense, a shade from danger. Just as a shadow follows closely, so does God’s protection remain near to those who abide in Him. His presence is not fragile or temporary—it is constant.

Psalm 91:10-11 says, “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

God’s protection doesn’t always mean we avoid every storm—but it means we are never uncovered in it. His hand guards, His angels surround, and His Spirit leads us through what we cannot see.

In the Greek, the idea of “keep” (φυλάσσω — phylassō) means to guard like a watchman. Heaven is attentive. You are not walking alone—you are being watched over with intentional care.

There is no idol made of wood, clay, stone, gold or any material that can give you protection like Lord God Jehovah! There is none beside Him!

If we put our trust in Him He will keep us, in the storm or thru the storm! Jesus never fails!

How can we walk in this protection?

Stay close to God daily - protection flows from relationship, not distance.

Speak His promises over your life, especially in moments of fear.

Trust that even unseen dangers are under His authority.

You are not vulnerable—you are covered. Even when you cannot see it, God’s protection is actively surrounding your life.

Let me pray with you. Father,

Thank You that I am never exposed or unprotected. Teach me to dwell in Your presence and rest under Your covering. Quiet every fear and remind my heart that You are my refuge and fortress. Surround me, guide me, and keep me under your protection. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
