“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Acts 3:6 (KJV)
Peter and John were on their way to the temple at the hour of prayer. A man, lame from birth, was laid daily at the gate called Beautiful to beg for alms. When Peter stopped to speak to him, the man expected money. But Peter offered something far greater—a miracle in the name of Jesus Christ.
This moment wasn’t just about physical healing. It revealed the authority of Jesus’ name, the faith of His apostles, and the transforming power of giving what God has placed within us.
“Silver and gold have I none”
Peter did not possess earthly riches, yet he was rich in something far greater—spiritual authority and divine power through Christ.
“But such as I have give I thee”
This phrase emphasizes spiritual generosity. Peter gave not out of material abundance, but out of divine anointing and faith.
• The Greek for have (ἔχω echo) means “to hold, possess, or keep.” Peter possessed the Spirit of Christ within him (Acts 2:4).
• The Greek for give (δίδωμι didōmi) means “to grant, to bestow, to impart.” This act wasn’t merely words—it was an impartation of what Peter carried.
“In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk”Here lies the authority of the miracle.
• Name in Greek is ὄνομα (onoma), meaning not just a title but authority, reputation, and character.
To do something “in the name” of Jesus is to act under His authority and in His stead. He gives us authority to use his name. I have never cast out a demon by my name, it just wouldn’t work. Nothing would happen. But when I say “In the name of Jesus come out! 💥” Demons must obey! They must submit to His name‼️
Let’s look at the details of the command given in the name of Jesus!
• Rise up (ἔγειρε egeire) means “to awaken, to raise from sleep or death.”
• Walk (περιπάτει peripatei) means “to walk about, to live, to conduct one’s life.”
Peter wasn’t just commanding physical mobility—he was calling forth a new way of life for this man!
The Name of Jesus Carries Authority
The name “Jesus Christ of Nazareth” ties the divine Son of God to His earthly ministry.
• Jesus (Greek: Ἰησοῦς Iēsous; Hebrew: יֵשׁוּעַ Yeshua) means “The LORD saves.”
• Christ (Greek: Χριστός Christos) means “Anointed One.”
When Peter spoke His name, he invoked the authority of the risen Lord who conquered death. As believers, we have the same right to pray, command, and act in His name (John 14:13–14).
Peter didn’t pray silently or wish the man well—he spoke and acted in faith. Faith isn’t passive. It reaches out and lifts others up (v.7).
James 2:17 reminds us, “Faith without works is dead.”
You may not have silver or gold, but you can give encouragement, prayer, time, or a word from God.
• A kind word may heal a broken heart.
• A prayer may open a door for someone’s miracle.
• Your testimony may lift a soul out of despair.
Whatever God has given you—give it freely.
“Freely ye have received, freely give.” — Matthew 10:8
Use the Name of Jesus with Faith and Reverence
When you pray “in Jesus’ name,” you’re not using a formula—you are standing in His authority and covenant.
• Speak His name over sickness, fear, depression, or confusion.
• Believe that His name carries the same power today as when Peter spoke it.
Let me pray with you. Lord, I ask that you show us those we can help by being your hands. Help us to have faith and boldness to reach those in need. Teach us how to walk in your authority, never abusing it but show us how to bring freedom and life to those around us. In Jesus name! Amen‼️
