“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.” — Proverbs 16:18 (KJV)

There’s a dangerous moment in the human heart — a moment when pride whispers, “You’ve got this. You don’t need God.” It’s the same deception that caused Lucifer to fall from Heaven and that led Adam and Eve to reach for the forbidden fruit. It’s the lie that man can stand above, or even equal to, the God who created him.

Throughout Scripture, we see what happens when man exalts himself above God.

Nebuchadnezzar walked through his palace boasting, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built… by the might of my power?” (Daniel 4:30). But before the words left his mouth, the Lord humbled him. The mighty king was driven to live among beasts until he learned that “the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men.”

When man forgets who God is, he loses sight of who he truly is — dust, shaped by divine hands and animated by God’s breath. Without the Lord, our strength is weakness, our wisdom is foolishness, and our kingdoms are sandcastles waiting for the tide.

God is not intimidated by man’s pride; He is patient, waiting for humility to bloom where arrogance once stood. When we bow low before Him, He lifts us up. But when we try to take His place, He allows us to fall — not to destroy us, but to remind us that we were never meant to live apart from His glory. We need our creator without Him we are nothing.

Don’t take credit that belongs to God. Honor Him, respect Him. He is God and we are just the creation.

Lord, help us to not lose sight of who you are. May we honor and respect you as God above all gods. There are none beside you! Teach us to walk as a man after your heart! We thank you for your love and mercy, amen!
