“Letting Go of Bitterness”

“See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many become defiled.” — Hebrews 12:15, NASB

Bitterness begins as a small root but quickly spreads, affecting us and those around us. Sometimes we feel justified in our bitterness. We feel it’s our right to be bitter after we have experienced something bad. If you lie to yourself that it’s your right then you have enabled a spirit of offense that won’t stop until either you evict it by the blood of Jesus or it devours your peace and possibly your health. Spirits don’t come alone, they bring their whole family and the destruction they will do to you won’t be limited to just that “I have been hurt” feeling. Scripture states that Satan was sent to kill, steal, and destroy. (John 10:10) Deal with bitterness quickly. Realize “who” is talking in your ear. Rebuke him and ask God for grace. God’s grace is greater than any offense, and through His Spirit, we can uproot bitterness before it poisons our hearts.

Let me pray over you.

Lord, pull out any root of bitterness in us. Fill us instead with Your grace, mercy, and love. Open our eyes so we can see the truth of who is behind the root of bitterness. Help us get it out and help us return love instead of spite. In Jesus name! Amen!
