“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.” — 1 John 4:1 KJV

When we believe God may have spoken through a dream, the next step is not excitement—it is discernment.

A dream should be tested.

GOD CAN USE DREAMS TO PREPARE US

Joseph’s dream prepared him for what was coming.

Pharaoh’s dream prepared Egypt for famine.

Joseph’s dreams in Matthew prepared him to protect Jesus.

God sometimes gives revelation before the circumstances arrive.

But revelation carries responsibility.

If God shows you something concerning prayer, your response may be to pray.

If He warns you, your response may be to seek Him.

If He reveals an area of your life that needs correction, your response should be obedience.

DON’T MAKE MAJOR DECISIONS BASED ON A DREAM ALONE

A dream should never become a substitute for Scripture, prayer, wisdom, and godly counsel.

Proverbs 11:14 says: “In the multitude of counsellors there is safety.”

If a dream concerns a major life decision, take time to pray and seek confirmation. Don’t rush simply because a dream was vivid.

LOOK FOR CONFIRMATION

God may confirm something through:

Scripture

A passage of Scripture may suddenly speak directly to what you dreamed.

Prayer

As you pray, God may bring clarity and peace.

Circumstances

Sometimes circumstances begin aligning with what was shown.

Godly Counsel

Mature believers may help you recognize something you could not see yourself.

Repetition

A dream or message may be repeated, as happened with Pharaoh.

BE CAREFUL WITH FEAR

Not every frightening dream is a warning from God. Remember that God does not operate through confusion and terror.

“For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace.” — 1 Corinthians 14:33 A disturbing dream may cause us to pray—but we should not automatically assume disaster is coming.

Instead say:

“Lord, if this is from You, show me what You want me to do.”

That changes fear into prayer.

Dreams can be a means God uses.

The Bible is our foundation.

The Holy Spirit is our guide.

Discernment is our safeguard.

Lets pray;

Jesus we ask for your guidance in our dreams. Teach us to use scripture, prayer, wisdom, and discernment when we look at the dreams we have. Use me as I sleep. Show me people who need prayer, situations that need me to pray over them. Teach me how to be the person who stands in the gap. Help me to know when a dream is from you. In Jesus name! Amen!

James 1:5 says: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not.” - Pastor Belinda🌷
