“A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.”. Psa. 63:1

This Psalm of David shows his willingness to pursue after God even in a mean season. At this time, he was being pursued by King Saul, he has lost his wife (Michal) as she was given to another man in spite by King Saul, and he is in hiding in a wilderness, an unbelievably hot, desolate, desert place. But in the midst of this David’s hunger for God causes him to rise up early and seek God. David says, “early I will seek you!” Almost every other English translation says, “earnestly” I will seek you. While this is “implied”, it is not what he actually says. The Hebrew word here translated “early” is the word Shachar. 🤔 It means the dawn. So while “earnestly” may be implied… he is talking about a timeline.

There is something to be said about doing things in God’s timeline. I know we think it doesn’t matter as we approach this with indifference, but we as the body of Christ suffer from diminished capacity. We have done things our way in our own time for so long and have seen such dismal results that maybe, just maybe, we ought to investigate and apply “diligence” to the equation and see if it truly makes a difference. As we set our sights to replicate David’s heart and seek Him early, may you find power working inside you.

“Father, teach us to seek you “earnestly early”! Help us rise out of slumber and diligently pursue you… in Jesus' name, Amen!”

“So it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Eph. 5:14.
